The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the city's streets, water and sewer systems. It is the goal of this department to provide these public services in a proficient manner while keeping the citizens of Bellevue notified of upcoming projects and improvements.
City of Bellevue's Public Works Department is continuing the work of installing water meter vaults. The scope of this project is to bring the City of Bellevue into compliance by 2020 with the EPA Standards for water conservation efforts.
This year an independent contractor has been hired for the installation. Most water lines are located in the roadways. This means that meter boxes will be placed in the right of way as close to the property line as possible. Many houses have landscaping and lawns extending into the right of ways. This will require the contractor to dig a hole in the ground large enough to work safely and complete installment. Any trees that pose a safety risk to the contractor may be taken down by the City of Bellevue. Any landscaping issues created by this work will be handled by the Public Works Department and are not the responsibility of the contractor. Part of the project will include flushing main lines through corresponding fire hydrants to maintain water quality. If you feel like you have had a loss of pressure on faucets or shower heads please clean them, they may have sediments trapped in the screens.
